Microneedling
What is Microneedling?
Our Evansville, Indiana facial plastic surgery office offers advanced microneedling procedures, which may include hyaluronic acid serums or your own stem cell solution that is applied and absorbed into the skin during treatment to further optimize the effects. Microneedling aftercare is also highly beneficial in getting the most out of your procedure. Our team will design an aftercare package to help you achieve the results you desire.
Types of Microneedling
Dr. Paik and Shay Glisson FNP-BC, our aesthetic nurse practitioner, offer several types of microneedling at Midwest Facial Plastic Surgery—Standard microneedling, Microneedling with PRF, Microneedling with Exosomes, RF microneedling, and Fractional RF. While there is some overlap between these treatments, we encourage you to learn more about each one below.
- Standard microneedling: Standard microneedling involves the use of a device to create small punctures in the skin where the treatment is administered. A serum such as hyaluronic acid (HA) serum is applied during the procedure. This addition helps maximize the effects of the treatment and often leads to quicker healing due to the enhanced delivery of the HA serum. You can also choose to enhance your results with the use of Exosomes or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF). A series of four to six treatments is recommended.
- Microneedling with PRF: Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a concentrate made from the plasma, platelets, white blood cells, and mesenchymal stem cells from the patient’s blood. When combined with microneedling, this treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing and restoration process. The addition of PRF offers quicker healing and longer lasting results than standard microneedling or the addition of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRF is the superior option because it is 100% natural, whereas PRP contains additives and anticoagulants. The presence of platelets, white blood cells, and stem cells from the patient bring about more healing factors. Most patients receive at least four treatments and start to see results after the second or third treatment.
- Microneedling with Exosomes: This method of microneedling uses an advanced serum made of stem cells and exosomes, which act as a messenger from cell to cell to bring growth factors and rejuvenative properties to encourage tissue repair in skin cells. The serum causes skin cells to regenerate at a faster rate, leading to a more radiant and youthful glow. As with other microneedling treatments, there is little or no downtime required after the procedure, and a series of four treatments is generally suggested.
- RF Microneedling: For more dramatic results, many patients choose to undergo a microneedling procedure with added radiofrequency (RF) energy, known as RF Microneedling. The addition of RF energy heats the dermal tissue, stimulating even more collagen production, skin tightening, and tissue coagulation. This treatment is ideal for those wanting faster, more dramatic results in a shorter period of time. RF Microneedling is popular among our patients due to the quick appointment and impressive results. A series of three treatments is usually suggested.
At Midwest Facial Plastic Surgery, we utilize the state-of-the-art Rohrer Pixel 8 RF microneedling system. This system uses bipolar RF energy and minimally invasive microneedles to penetrate the deeper skin layers. With its enhanced delay function as well as advanced penetration system, treatments are much more tolerable with decreased risk of side effects. Additionally, this treatment can be combined with other treatments such as Erbium Yag laser resurfacing to enhance results.
